Each year it appears that more companies are choosing to take the major leap ahead and leave the office behind them and create a remote team. We have discovered that Trello and Github are just two prime examples of high profile businesses, that are busy creating virtual offices that simply allow workers from here, there and all over the world to join.
Here is the good stuff: For an early-stage startup, getting together a remote team can really be especially beneficial. It is a step forward that can drastically reduce company overhead, maintain a flexible working schedule and help recruit some of the best talent possible.
There is no getting away from the fact that remote teams are also a lot cheaper and much faster to get started and then to gain momentum. Even for the regular, traditionalist kind of company, the huge benefits of putting together and building a remote team are certainly enticing.
Build a Remote Team
So how do you go about building that killer remote team? Well, that’s the big secret that a lot of companies don’t want you to know about because they see the concept as one to keep close to hand so they can outperform the competition without them knowing how they’re doing it.
But the secret is really no great special thing when you realize that there is such a huge pool of intelligent talent out there all around the world. Many newcomers believe they have to look to developing countries where wages are really low to find the best people at the lowest cost.
But by being cheap, you can fall into the trap of a false economy that can end up costing you a lot in the future. How? Well, the word “cheap” has a certain vibration to it that attracts to it all situations that call for cheapness, limitation and excessive economy.
That’s exactly what you do not want if you’re goal is expansion, growth and prosperity!
By all means, look around the world for potential team members, but be prepared to pay what these people are worth or risk having them for a short term while they learn all the ins and outs of how your company works, then drop you like a hot coal and go work for a rival company that pays better – or startup on their own and become your biggest and most competitive rival!
Like I said, paying cheap is false economy when it can come around to bite you in the backside!
